Zilala Mamat

Zilala is a junior majoring in Government and minoring in Public Policy. Being Uyghur, her passion lies in human rights and advocacy; she aims to explore the internal processes of international law and foreign relations. On campus, Zilala is a part of the Einhorn Center, the Community Partnership Funding Board, ACLU, Cornell Asian Pacific Americans for Action, TEDx Cornell, and Cornell Coalition of Students Resisting the CCP. Off-campus, Zilala is the Co-founder of the nonprofit United Uyghur Youth and Rawan Mentorship and also closely collaborates with Freedom House and International Republican Institute (nonpartisan) on international grants and research projects. She spent her past summer abroad in Turkey and Central Asia with funding from Freedom House and the US State Dept doing independent ethnographic research and archival work. She continued her research in Central Asia this winter break as well. In her free time, you can find Zilala battling her addiction to procrastination or grubbing on West with Mira.
