Emily (Cusick) Deagen (ILR '12) served as the founding President of KAPi from 2011-2012. While at Cornell, she was a member of Kappa Delta sorority and served as an officer on Panhellenic, worked for Student Agencies as Director of HR, and spent 3 years as a team leader for the Pre-Orientation Service Trips (POST) through the Cornell Public Service Center. After graduation from Cornell, Emily attended Harvard Law School (JD '15) where she was elected as Class Marshal, served as Notes Editor and Senior Editor of the Journal of Law and Public Policy, President of the Catholic Law Students Association and was selected as a recipient of the Dean's Award for Community Citizenship.

Since graduating law school, Emily has worked as a corporate and tax lawyer at various large law firms in Boston and New York. She currently specializes in M&A and private equity transactions at the Boston office of Kirkland & Ellis LLP. In addition to corporate law, Emily maintains an active nonprofit and tax-exempt organizations advisory practice and has a large roster of nonprofit pro bono clients. Outside of the law, Emily is an avid reader and huge fan of theater. Her husband Mike is a materials scientist who is currently doing a data science-focused postdoc at MIT, and together they have two beautiful black cats, Statler and Waldorf.

Emily credits KAPi for giving her dozens of lifelong friendships and an amazing lineage that includes fellow KAPi presidents Matt Sloan and Patrick Nowak. She loves mentoring current students and alumni of the Delta chapter, and is happy to connect with any KAPi members who find themselves in the Boston area.
