Amara Valerio

 
 

Amara is a senior from Yonkers, NY majoring in American Studies with minors in Law and Society, Business, and Performing and Media Arts. With a passion for the intersection between the arts and law, Amara hopes to pursue a career in intellectual property law within the entertainment industry. She is also passionate about criminal justice reform and ending mass incarceration that disproportionately impacts the poor and people of color. In the past, she has worked as a legal intern at the Broome County Public Defender’s Office and as an undergraduate researcher in the College of Arts & Sciences inaugural Nexus Scholar Program. She collaborated with Professor Bruce Levitt on his research project regarding the transformative power of the arts through the lens of the Phoenix Players Theatre Group (PPTG), a theatre community founded by incarcerated men at Auburn Correctional Facility. Outside of KAPi, she serves as the Diversity and Inclusion Chair for Nothing But Treble A Cappella, Vice President of Finance for the Dominican Student’s Association, an Arts & Sciences Ambassador, and is a P3 Scholar, Peer Mentor, and Student Assistant at the Office of Academic & Diversity Initiatives. In her spare time, Amara loves to sing R&B and soul music, grab Cornell’s best iced latte at Zeus, and hangout with her amazing big Luke. She is an extrovert and loves to meet new people so feel free to reach out!
